Accessibility
A website everyone can use
Kidney care is for everyone, and so is this website. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and we keep checking as the site grows.
Built-in features
- Text size: use the A− and A+ buttons at the top of every page to make text larger, up to 140% on computers and 125% on phones. Your choice is remembered.
- Listen: every blog article has a Listen button that reads it aloud in English or Spanish.
- Term definitions: medical words with a dotted underline show a short definition when you tap, hover over or tab to them.
- Spanish first: if your device is set to Spanish, the site opens in Spanish. You can switch languages at any time at the top of the page.
- Calm motion: if your device is set to reduce motion, animations turn off, including the moving logo.
Keyboard and screen readers
- A "Skip to content" link is the first thing you reach with the Tab key.
- Headings follow a logical order, images have text descriptions, and diagrams are explained in the article text.
- Buttons and links are large enough to tap, and every form field has a label.
- Press the / key on any page to open search.
Color and contrast
- Text and buttons are checked against the WCAG contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1, and color is never the only way information is shown.
Known limits
- Some pages we link to, such as the cookbook and Florida Kidney Physicians, are run by others and may work differently.
- If any page, diagram or tool is hard to use, please tell us and we will help and fix it.
